Opuntia Aurea ‘Golden Carpet” (Very Cold Hardy)

Cold hardy, attractive opuntia which flowers yellow.  Smooth skin that becomes purple-kissed in direct sun, combined with a lack of large spines makes this one attractive cactus.

• Additional notes for this species: no large spikes, but does have glochids (small tufts of spikes that can stick in skin if touched).  Avoid touching them, but they can be easily removed with tweezers.

• Cold hardy: yes, to zone 5 (-23C down to possibly -29C when dry).
• Origin: likely a hybrid of opuntia aurea or opuntia basilaris.
