Frequently Asked Questions

F.A.Q.

1) How do I care for my succulents?
Care for succulents depends on the type of plant, but I have general guidelines to follow. Please refer to the care page. It can take time to gain experience and become skilled in growing these plants.

2) Should I use grow lights for my succulents?
Grow lights can keep succulents in excellent health, but are not necessarily needed. Please refer to the grow lights page.

3) How will my succulents be shipped?
Succulents will be shipped bare root, carefully wrapped in cushioning material. Some delicate types may ship in the nursery pot.

4) How soon after I place my order will the plants ship?
I ship Sunday/Monday morning to minimize time in transit and avoid weekend delays if possible. Plants are bare-rooted and need to dry for 2 days before packing/shipping, so depending on what day the order is placed, it may take up to a week before shipping occurs.

5) How should I care for my plants upon unboxing?
An instruction sheet is included with orders. Be sure to follow the directions carefully to avoid any potential issues.

6) What if a plant is damaged during shipping?
To date I have not had a single shipping complaint. Plants are packed carefully and any damage is usually very minor (a broken leaf or two), and not an issue. It is normal that the colour can fade slightly (dark box), and that the farina (wax layer) can rub off a little bit from the wrapping process. This is unavoidable and usually minimal. If your plant is damaged or you are unsatisfied please email me with a picture and I will address the issue.

7) Can I pickup my order locally?
Yes! Local pickup gives an extra 5% discount. Local pickup is available in Surrey, BC, at 65 Ave & 194 St (right on the Surrey/Langley border). Simply select “local pickup” at checkout and I will contact you to pick a day/time. Plants will be in nursery pots/soil.

8) Do you deliver?
No, unfortunately I do not have time to do deliveries as I work other jobs in addition to running Succuland by myself.

9) Do you offer bulk orders/wholesale pricing?
No. I am a professional grower, but small-scale/specialty niche and have limited grow space. Succulents grow slowly and have a long turnaround time (3 to 12+ months to propagate), so I do not have the capacity to fulfill bulk orders. Pricing is as listed on the website and is firm.

10) How do you grow your succulents?
I propagate succulents mainly by leaf, but also cutting and seed. The about, care, and grow light pages on this website essentially describe how I grow. There is a wealth of information online and on Youtube about succulent propagation, so I do not provide detailed guides. Propagation is a practice and an art that you learn through experience; if you want to learn, look up some info/videos online and just try it!

11) Are your succulents pest-free?
No grower of any type of plant can guarantee that all of their stock is 100% free of pests 100% of the time. That being said, the cleanliness of my grow stock is maintained to such a meticulous degree that problems are rare. In years past I dealt with just about every problem out there: aphids/mealybugs/scale/gnats/mites/powdery mildew/fungus/bacterial rot, etc. I have learned how to prevent and treat pests/disease as well as can be done. I rely mainly on good practices to prevent problems: air flow, sterilized tools, good plant nutrition, good soil composition, and beneficial microorganisms. All new inbound plants are quarantined and bio-sanitized. Any plants that show a problem are immediately discarded or quarantined/treated. Regular, skilled inspection and thorough treatment protocols keep my stock clean.
